La Ferté Abbey
The first foundation of Saint-Etienne (1113), La Ferté was one of the most important Cistercian abbeys.
The church has disappeared, but the magnificent abbatial palace remains fully intact.
Its interior decor beautifully reflects 18th-century art de vivre: a grand staircase, wood-paneled salons with carvings, tapestries, paintings, and original furniture.
The gallery features a large collection of 19th-century scientific instruments.
The English-style park completes the visit.
You can extend your stay by sleeping in the former dovecote or gatehouse of the Abbey.
Wine tastings from the family estate are also available.
